Dropbox spooks users by sending data to OpenAI for AI search features
Feature opt-out by default bothers users who like to keep their files private.
@arstechnica People who like to keep their files private should not put them on other people's computers, maybe.
@arstechnica This is utterly ridiculous. I back up files there that are under contract to presses and which constitute my intellectual property. Who is making money off of this? When will I and other users be compensated?
@arstechnica I guess it's time to move all my personal files off of Dropbox...
That's some BS! Supposedly this is only enabled for people in some alpha, which I am not, but sure enough, I checked and it was turned on for me. May be time to rethink using Dropbox!
@arstechnica Avoid X, avoid Dropbox!
@arstechnica you meant “feature opt-IN by default”, right?
@arstechnica actually I can see how the phase is ambiguous. I read “opt out by default” as “as a user by default you have to opt out if you don’t like it”.
But probably I’m reading it wrong. Clearly you meant it as “by default it is on, so you will have to opt out if you don’t like it”.
