Question for chicken owners, out of curiosity: what do you think the ACTUAL price of a dozen eggs is from the backyard chickens?
Include: feed, enclosure/repairs, lost chickens from predators, vet visits, chicken retirement lodge, chicken sweaters and hats, etc etc? #chickens
@ai6yr it's been a decade since I had a flock but in 2015 prices it would be about $2-3/dozen in Oregon with a flock of 30-50 birds. So with inflation, I would hazard a guess at $4-6/dozen.
The main thing that I see drive up the costs of people I know with small flocks is they don't know what they're doing and they make mistakes that cost money.
Like our neighbors can't figure out how to keep their birds safe from the neighborhood bobcat
