My walk today was around Hammonasset Beach State Park. I took two cameras again:
Nikon FE2 with Nikkor 28mm f/2.8 Ai loaded with Ilford Ortho 80
Nikon FG with Series E 50mm f/1.8 and Rollei Retro 80S
First time out with either camera so here are my thought in a short thread. 1 of 3
The FE2 was great. Just works and stays out of the way. No issues with the cold (it was 31F with a wind chill of 13F.) I love it. I'll be using it a lot more. 2 of 3
The FG however was disappointing. I couldn't see the LED shutter speed indicators at all so I had no idea what the camera was doing in Aperture priority. No issues with the cold and it is quite comfortable in the hand.
The FG-20 is a more usable camera if you don't need manual functionality in my opinion. 3 of 3
@foggygray What did you think of the FE2 match needle metering? It’s the best meter readout I’ve used.
@tomnorthfilm Its perfect. I love a match needle display. That's why I prefer the FG-20 over the FG.
Technically the FG-20 isn't a match needle since there's no matching but the needle is so much better than LED.
@knapjack @foggygray The LEDs are also why I didn’t bond with the FM2n.
@foggygray, I've had my FE out -10C (14F) and lower before windchill. The only times it has given me trouble was on very hot days, 30C (86F) and up. I have yet to expose my FE@ to such extremes.
The F4 has handled everything I have thrown at it from -20C, blizzards, and the hottest days here.
@roguemusiclab Interesting that hot days would cause more trouble than cold ones.
@foggygray, it surprised me. However, it could just be my camera. It has since had a CLA but I've also not used it much since I now have an FE2 as well.
