Fascism makes swift inroads when people start accepting the dehumanization and destruction of entire groups of people, and fascism's favorite response to those who invoke moral and humanitarian concerns about it is to label them "traitors" who are "supporting the enemy."
By the time you're rationalizing that the enemy is so evil that 100 dead civilians is worth it to "take out" one terrorist, maybe, and that you can't stop bombing or allow humanitarian aid because the enemy will take advantage of it, you're completely past the slippery slope. And yet, these people are treated as decent, rational actors on the world stage.
@gwynnion
We understand it is cruel and inhumane behavior when it comes from non-state actors, like Hamas (rightly so).
But when wrapped in the office of government, then other governments bend over backward to rationalise the unacceptable.
But leaders can be wrong, even criminal. The moral position is to support the right of all citizens to live in peace and self-determinarion. Similarly, any action that breaks international law should be condemned.

Adam Raz is a historian who works with primary source archives, which is an important context for what he has to say about Netanyahu's coalition.
So this piece about how Netanyahu helped ensure Hamas had funding and power is worth reading. He wanted a two-state solution to fail (much as Hamas does), and the way to do that was to weaken the Palestinian Authority and strengthen Hamas.

Interesting.
Whether an intentional strategy or not, it's clear #Netanyahu and #Hamas both benefit from conflict. Neither have made any tangible efforts to make a #TwoStateSolution . The people deserve better. They deserve a political solution.
Exactly. Regardless how one feels about the way modern Israel was established, a two-state solution is the only one that makes sense and will not lead to broader atrocities.
(Sorry I forgot the article link earlier. Woke up quite groggy today. Now edited into my earlier toot.)
@gwynnion I saw a British call-in talkshow where the following scenario was imagined: what if Hamas terrorists were known to be hiding among Israelis in, say, Tel Aviv? Would that justify bombing the city and accepting Israeli civilian deaths as collateral damage? If not, why not? What's the difference with bombing Gaza?
@gwynnion It is worrying to see how the continued right wing rule of Netanyahu has turned Israel into everything it should not be. You would think that more than 6.000.000 victims from the Holocaust and ages of diaspora and discrimination would have lead to deep understanding of human suffering at least with the Israeli government. The only result however seems to be blind hate and anger and a disability to see its own mistakes…
It is indeed fascism...
@gwynnion
Fascism makes great inroads when people are insecure (in their position in the world) and fear losing it. So every corporation that cuts employment and wages so they can continue to massively overpay CEOs and wealthy investors supports fascism.
