@itsfoss from what I've heard, it's kinda not?
@itsfoss
> OpenShot is an underrated app. What do you think?
I think it's deeply frustrating that all Free Code video editing apps (and 3D modelling apps etc) don't provide a conservative set of minimum hardware specs for getting a decent Use Experience from their apps. Right there on the download page, so I don't have to dig for it. Or give it a whirl, and be disappointed. Every. Single. Time.
Because my ancient laptops just aren't up to the grunt they need.
@itsfoss Well.. Every app did have its own userbase. And that's fairly normal and good. Some people doesn't need to have plenty of complex features nor fancy options, just to be able to do simple tasks they want. But there are also such who do want something more advanced or being dedicated to the pro level of users. They will be paying attention to software like DaVinci Resolve and similar complete solutions. And that's very okay as well. To each according to his needs and wishes.
@itsfoss I quite agree. Effect previewing is not just a killer feature but something that should be a must for any program. And many private ones do have it.
@itsfoss Kdenlive has more features. Shotcut feels more professional and Flowblade just looks more sexy.
Unfortunately, OpenShot looks outdated with all those ugly icons throughout the user interface. Looks like a video editor made for kids.
@itsfoss@mastodon.social At least this one has better way to add trnasition compared to Kdenlive
@linkachus17 @itsfoss According to OpenShot website, "OpenShot Video Editor has a total of 27 built-in video and audio effects: 18 video effects and 9 audio effects."
Guess how many effects Kdenlive supports?
@textovervideo@fosstodon.org @itsfoss@mastodon.social Yes I know Kdenlive has that many effects and all, but Kdenlive has the worst way of applying Dissolve transition. There is a single button to do it, but you do have to cut the each end of the clip 1/2 second or something. It works but buggy at best
@linkachus17 @itsfoss Are you aware that the most common transition is the “cut.” Transitions are insignificant compared to other features in video editors.
@textovervideo@fosstodon.org @itsfoss@mastodon.social and I have different editing style, sorry
@linkachus17 @itsfoss When was the last time you watched a commercial on TV? The professionals get paid lots of money to make professional commercials, and the most popular transition they use is what? The famous "cut" transition.
@textovervideo@fosstodon.org @itsfoss@mastodon.social That's commercial. This is me, personal editing style.
@linkachus17 @itsfoss Instead of being fixed on using unpopular transitions, maybe spending more time on color correction or applying effects and filters might be a better investment of your time as a video editor.
https://docs.kdenlive.org/de/effects_and_filters/video_effects/color_image_correction.html
@textovervideo@fosstodon.org @itsfoss@mastodon.social I already know how to color grade, at least on DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Lightroom. But I don't know how to use color grading tool on Kdenlive since they all split up into multiple tool instead of being one for all like DaVinci Resolve does
@linkachus17 @itsfoss Have you tried color grading on OpenShot?
@textovervideo@fosstodon.org I have not used OpenShot yet
If I want to make "professional" editing, I would just use my DaVinci Resolve. I would only use editors such as OpenShot or Kdenlive for quick cut editing
@linkachus17 @itsfoss Besides "transitions," what other features does OpenShot have that are better than Kdenlive?
@itsfoss To be honest, all of the FOSS video editors are terrible. To anyone who has even a modicum of understanding of professional editing, those tools will just never be adequate. Kdenlive is highly regarded on the internet, but when you open it up it doesn't even support decent audio crossfading, making it an amateurish option at best. Openshot is many rungs below Kdenlive in terms of quality, so that should tell you everything you need to know about it. It's garbage, just like the rest.
