That is why, I always recommend Ultramarine Linux - Especially to newbies.
You're going to have a full working desktop with drivers, firmware, media codecs, and repos already taken care of. Directly after install, you can use your Desktop PC right away. Even your GPU drivers, no matter if they are Nvidia, AMD, or Intel, are already configures. -- That makes it, technically, easier than Windows.
It's a direct fork of Fedora Linux, so you're not dealing with multiple upstreams. You've also got 25+ years of documentation, community forums, and live chat if you need it.
