Happy 40th birthday, Macintosh!
To make it about me for a second, the fact that PCalc is 31 years old too is just wild, because it means I’ve been doing all this for a not insignificant chunk of the Mac’s entire existence.
It definitely felt to me like I came late to the Mac, because I didn’t use one until 1990, but in reality it was only 6 years old when I bought a Mac Classic.
Not to mention, I was working at Apple itself when the Mac was only 12.
Now somehow, it’s 40? How does that work?
@jamesthomson to quote from a lesser Star Trek movie: "Time is the fire in which we burn"
@jamesthomson I had a second-hand original Mac (in 85) and then, like you, a Mac Classic. I also don't understand how time works… Maybe PCalc can help me.
@heyitsbob I should have added date maths!
@jamesthomson I always knew the Mac’s birthday was about you
@ioslife Everything is about me :)
@jamesthomson time flies like an arrow
@jamesthomson all I read was “we are getting old..”
I went to work at a company using Macs in 1990, having never used computers before. It was love at first sight.
@jamesthomson I wouldn't have thought I've been using a Mac longer than you. My parents bought a Mac II in 1987. In Germany it cost an absolute fortune, even with a large educational discount.
@hagedose68 I could only afford my Classic because of the large discount too!
@jamesthomson Nonlinear time. It's really annoying. People keep telling me that 90ies was 30 years ago, too!
@uliwitness @jamesthomson how can the 90s be over if the 80s never ended?
@tvwonder I get to retire?
@jamesthomson I used your dock app for a long time; a long time ago. What was it called again?
@dh_frank DragThing!
