@jfzeigler fanfic eh ? I am new to Ao3, currently an enthusiastic reader but hoping to be a writer soon-ish.
Did you post there ? - You don't have to share a handle just curious what fandoms you might have written for ?
@Faintdreams I posted everything to FanFiction.net, but I cross-posted a lot of stories to AO3 too.
This was back when I was playing a lot of Bioware games, so I did one novel for the original "Dragon Age," and a whole series of stories for the original "Mass Effect" trilogy.
@jfzeigler
Lots to like in there, particularly GURPS and Traveller
I'm also a fan of scientifically plausible worldbuilding in my writing.
@murdoc If you don't mind a spot of self-promotion, then, have a look at my most recent book: "Architect of Worlds," from Ad Astra Games. That's kind of my last word on designing plausible stars and planetary systems, at least until I get around to writing a second edition.
@jfzeigler Hi Jon, welcome! I’m curious, what does it entail to be a practicing stoic philosopher for you?
@tanyakaroli That's hard to summarize in 500 characters.
For me, it's things like "you can't control what happens in the world, all you can control is how you react to it." Which suggests maintaining emotional balance despite setbacks, and sticking to our duties and our ethical stance no matter what the world might say.
Also, being determined to move toward the good one step at a time, no matter how long and hard the process might be.
I end up reading Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius a lot.
@jfzeigler That sounds like a life philosophy I can subscribe to as well. I count myself lucky to be naturally well-balanced but I have also cultivated a stance of acceptance towards my own flaws and mistakes since I was in my early teens. Which was around the same time I truly understood that other people can have very different perceptions of a situation because they have different experiences. All of this followed the loss of a stepbrother and moving to another part of the country, both good reasons to reflect on life and relationships.
