I can always count on Substack to do something shitty that makes my articles about them relevant again.

@jhpot “Flawless as their reputation may be,” lol

@davids

I mean, it's very clear what they're about and they're super consistent. As an editor I appreciate some precision word choice. 😀

@jhpot

@condalmo @jhpot Substack has been paying serious money to hire away literal Nazis from other platforms (while banning any form of pornography) and just emitted a statement saying they will continue to do this, claiming that giving a platform and money to Nazis is fighting against antisemitism.

@jhpot @zachleat Rest in pieces, Revue

"Revue is owned by Twitter" LMAO

@mastodonmigration Email gets tricky! It’s really hard to not get flagged as spam. I might explore that for myself at some point, though.

@mastodonmigration Newsletters are great because, try as we may, the public never figured out RSS in a big way but everyone uses email. Sending emails is important if you want to grow your audience, but sending from a server you control often means getting filtered out by spam guards. It’s a huge hassle, which makes it hard to recommend to journalists and others who just want to run a newsletter without having to manage a tech company

@mastodonmigration Aha! I think this didn’t exist when I wrote the article in 2022. If I ever have the chance to do an update I’ll look into this (I wish I could use it on a self-hosted blog though)

@jhpot

Does going with WordPress.com solve the spam problem?

@jhpot

Ah that's interesting! In the sucky sense.
You'd have to somehow convince subscribers to whitelist your email address off the bat, but a lot of people would certainly miss that.

@mastodonmigration

@jhpot hahaha I almost said that too but then I thought "timely!" by itself worked better. but yes, evergreen too!

@jhpot your jib sir, I like the cut of it. 🫡
