Over the years I’ve known a great many others in the geek/nerd tribe who self-identify as gamers. It always puzzles me. I’m perfectly happy to spend long hours in front of a screen reading or writing or coding. But games? I simply lack that gene.
My belated introduction to Super Mario Brothers: https://blog.jonudell.net/2022/12/26/my-belated-introduction-to-super-mario-brothers/
@judell I am the same.
@kin Good to know! I wonder if it is actually a gene?
@darrel_miller @judell agreed. Bigger puzzles to be had.
@darrel_miller @judell @kin Yeah, not judging gamers but I played lots of video games from fifth grade through college, and then just kind of lost interest. It's not a gene.
@judell I see data and APIs as games or puzzles that fill this void for me. Might be different if I didn’t have this.
@kin Yes! It recently occurred to me that working through data+API challenges is my version of doing crossword puzzles or word games. Which I also avoid. Wordle was a rare exception for me, but only for a while, then I got bored. I never get bored with data+APIs.
@judell Also: "Amanita is the name, they cover over everything."
From what I can tell, the reason this is full of statements that are not true of Amanita (they're not a flower and they don't bloom) is because the "flowers" are really extrajudicial killings.
