I don’t know what the experience of others has been but until the most recent update, I wasn’t able to get VoiceOver to read responses from the ChatGPT app on a Mac. Today, you can kind of read the text, although all the text is reported as one object and any attempt to interact to read in detail doesn’t read anything.

One handy thing you can do beyond just uploading photos, is have the app describe your entire Mac screen or pick from a list of running apps and get a description of that screen. For example, here is the description of the app where I’m composing this post. Note, I instructed ChatGPT to focus on the visual aspects because the initial response also included all the text.

The image is a screenshot of a Mastodon interface with a dark theme. Here’s a visual breakdown: (1/4)

Background and Colors:

• The background is a deep grayish-black, typical of a dark mode setting, making it easier on the eyes in low-light conditions.
• The text is displayed in white, providing a strong contrast against the dark background for readability.
• The username (kellyford) and handle are shown in a lighter gray color, distinguishing them from the main body text.
• The icons for reply, boost, favorite, and share are also present below each post, depicted in light gray. (2/4)

Layout:

• The profile picture area is represented with a generic gray silhouette icon, indicating that the user might not have a custom profile image or it’s not shown in this screenshot.
• The first post takes up most of the visible space, followed by a smaller second post just below it.
• The reply and interaction options (like, boost, and share icons) are lined up horizontally beneath each post. (3/4)

• To the left, a small sidebar contains two icons: one for Public visibility (a globe icon) and the other for the language setting (an “A” icon), indicating that the post is in English.
