Ok this is wild - when I (iPhone) text mastodon links to my partner (Android) they suddenly don’t appear to be coming through. No error, she just doesn’t get them. Seems to be regardless of the instance.

@misc I think when it’s iPhone-iPhone (texts turn blue), it uses E2E encryption that neither carrier nor Apple can read, but green texts are handled by the carrier. (I think?) Wonder whether mastodon.social ended up on a T-Mobile denylist…
@inthehands Not just mastodon.social though! I wonder if it has something to do with Apple’s toot previews…
I had to call T-Mobile and the support person could not hear me most of the time.

@boby_biq lol I tried, she wouldn’t budge - which means our texts go over SMS. I’m now thinking we maybe should switch to Whatsapp or Signal.

@misc I’ve had this happen in the past before (with non-masto links). incidentally, I am ipone+t-mobile too, but I don’t think t-m was the cause because it would happen when I texted a link to a group of one iphone+att and one android+att, and the android user couldn’t see the link. not sure which side of the stack is falling down, but android user complained about this happening with other iphones too.

A friend of a friend had an Android phone.
When I was coming into town for a week, I needed a place to stay — our mutual friend gave me this person’s number.
I repeatedly texted and called (politely, spread out).
Never heard back.
Got into town,
met them in person,
and they like,
“How come you never got back to me??”
They showed me their phone with all MY texts to them,
AND
all their replies.
You might try formatting the URLs so they aren’t clickable or linked.
