What tech treat are you gifting yourself this Christmas?
@nixCraft time off from my job in tech
@nixCraft Portable EMP generator.
I got a used monitor from the thriftshop yesterday, and today I bought myself a flashdrive that's a combo USB A & C. That was an impulse purchase. Not sure exactly what I'll do with it, but it could come in handy. I saw it while I was buying a drive for someone else.
I also got a 1.2k page pdf manual for gnu octave. Not sure how motivated I am for that. Time to be winding down my math/work stuff, and I don't know if I feel like learning new (work)stuff.
@nixCraft Trying out jujutsu
@jonathan And I am having a realy good moment! This is the first time I tinkle with git without having a urge to kill myself!
@nixCraft wish it could be a RISC-V machine for daily-driving but let put it off
@nixCraft I'm thinking of building one of Wolfgang's home servers.
@nixCraft More art supplies
@nixCraft I feel like the proper answer here is a copy of "Farming for Dummies"
@nixCraft a sweet keyboard, nothing super fancy but nicer than what I got now
@nixCraft a working-ish Emacs config (which i'm still gonna improve and improve until I find a job)
@nixCraft it’s tech, I promise: Shimano GRX-RX825 DI2 grupset for my bike
@nixCraft 64 gigs of DDR4. (Up from 32.) (I would have upgraded to 128 gigs, but I have an ITX board with only two slots.)
@nixCraft What I need is a proper, encrypted, off-site backup, but I doubt I'll get it this year.
@BoydStephenSmithJr @nixCraft Restic + Backblaze, easy.
@tmalsburg @nixCraft I have a multi-TB video archive, so I'm concerned about tanking my upstream, but thanks for the suggestions!
EDIT: Restic includes bw limiting options, and specifically documents Backblaze setup, so I probably will pursue this solution.
@nixCraft Parts for my various electronics projects. Not even expensive.
@nixCraft my glove 80 keyboard
@nixCraft I got a new desk and a bunch of stuff to spruce up my setup
@nixCraft Not buying something
@nixCraft I'm going to buy a motorised standing desk and a walking pad sooner or later... Does someone have any thoughts or advice on that?
