Wow, thank you to all of my new followers and special thanks to @kenSwinson for the warm welcome to Mastodon. I built up over 50k followers on Instagram over the course of a decade and have become disgruntled that I can’t access those users due to the algorithm. I’m ready for the future of decentralized platforms. I hope more artists and craftspeople join us here. I also use .

@potterybyosa @kenSwinson Welcome to a different way of social media, a slower pace and more meaningful interaction.

@potterybyosa @kenSwinson welcome! I've enjoyed the art posted here in the Fediverse and participating in # ArtAdventCalendar recently was a lot of fun 😊

@potterybyosa I'm happy to help! The decentralized social web is a little bit confusing (im still learning) but I think you'll like it once you get the hang of it.

I recommend giving @FediTips a follow. they are a great source of information.

Your experience as a community organizer could be a really wonderful addition for the art and crafts community of the fediverse. feel free to reach out if you have any questions or ideas....and , again, welcome!!!

Hello & welcome. Your work is beautiful!

@potterybyosa

Welcome, Osa! I hope you’ll be happy on your instance. It’s the largest there is, and there are advantages to that but also potential problems. If you’d like to know more, I’ll try to explain.

But for now, enjoy your new fediverse home! Great to have you on board!

@potterybyosa omg, it's so lovely to see you on here! I have a kitchen utensil holder you made years ago, and I always enjoy your updates. it's been so fun to see your craft grow over time.

@ansate Amazing! Thanks so much for following along all this time and for supporting my work.

@potterybyosa @kenSwinson

Welcome! Great to hear your voice & see your beautiful ceramics! 🙂
Interesting to read of your Insta experience too: "I built up over 50k followers on Instagram over the course of a decade and have become disgruntled that I can’t access those users due to the algorithm. I’m ready for the future of decentralized platforms." !! 🙂

@FaithfullJohn @kenSwinson beautiful pot! I hope as a geologist you’ll give your two cents whenever I post about samples I collect and use in my work.

@FaithfullJohn @kenSwinson reading about her legacy now. How kind of you to donate her collection to the national museum. I’m very much relating to her island life and drawing inspiration from water as I live in Florida and feel the same way.

@FaithfullJohn @kenSwinson Tony Ogogo and I are not only both Nigerian but from the same tribe. He was from Benin, which is where my dad is from, and the origin of my name.

@potterybyosa @kenSwinson Wow! He was a lovely potter. I was so pleased to get the wee pot by him on ebay a couple of years ago.

My mum (and my dad) both liked Abuja pottery, and bought this little jug by Abu Karo at an exhibition in London in the late 50s or early 60s. It's now in the Hunterian museum in Glasgow.

@FaithfullJohn @kenSwinson Incredible. Naturally, I’m a bit obsessed with this history but haven’t had the opportunity to experience these pots in person.

@potterybyosa @kenSwinson Absolutely inspiring to see pottery as good as yours here on Mastodon. I feel peace just looking at them - thank you!

@potterybyosa @kenSwinson Welcome! My grandmother’s name was Osa. You must be very special. ❤️

@DebR @kenSwinson interesting. Do you know how she got her name and what it means? I’ve met a Swedish person named Åsa (pronounced Osa) and of course other Nigerian Osas but that’s about it. My full name is Osasu which means “Guided or led by God” in the Edo language from Benin, Nigeria.

@potterybyosa @kenSwinson I’m a genealogy buff and so is my cousin. We have puzzled over this because it is an unusual name, but recently I have seen some ancestors from Scandinavia with the name Osa and think it may have come from there.
