Every #potter, every #craftsperson, is a #culturalpreservationist. When I took my first #pottery class 12 years ago, I had no idea what I was participating in, how ancient and huge it was.
A South African potter named #JabulileNala taught me how to coil build. She comes from a long line of #Zulu potters with a tradition extending back at least 2,000 years.
Biseat Yakwal took this #filmphoto of me teaching a coil building workshop in Gainesville, FL in 2023.
@potterybyosa @kristinHenry I want to take a pottery and sculpting class but was not able to because my university didn't have the class available during my last semester.
@gocu54 @kristinHenry it won’t be the same as taking a semester at college, but I will soonbe offering an accessibly priced (sliding scale) online class helping people to get started making pottery from home at minimal cost and with minimal equipment. #clayisforeveryone
@potterybyosa Coil-building
Wheel-thrown pots look nice, but coil-built always just feels more personal to me.
@potterybyosa That's so beautiful! I have been wanting to take a pottery class
