Did some more digging into this. Seems the issue is that #deezer doesn’t support the use of a vpn (ie, actively blocks usage). That makes it a non-starter for me. Spotify *does* support a vpn so #deezer’s comment about licensing don’t hold water. Looked more into this. Tried #qobuz and that explicitly complained about me using a vpn when I tried to sign up. So maybe there is a licensing issue (although I’ve never seen #spotify or #applemusic complain when using a vpn)

Presumably they would be in hot water with labels if they allowed customers from a country they're not licensed for.
