I barely understamd how Mastodon works so thats very helpful
@shoudoesart @theowlhouse tl;dr Mastodon is part of a larger network called the "Fediverse". All sites in the Fediverse follow the same common standard for sharing posts/accounts/etc
Lemmy (where the group i shared to is) is another platform that focuses on forums/link aggregation (aka like Reddit), but it's also built on the Fediverse
So, the same way mastodon.social can share your post with me on universeodon.com, they can also exchange with Lemmy, and all the other various platforms (there's a lot!)
Admittedly support across platforms isnt perfect, Mastodon doesn't handle groups very well and Lemmy doesn't have any way to follow Mastodon users, but it's a lot better than nothing, and only going to get better as the platforms mature!
