Anyone know of a mastodon instance that uses the IHRA definition of antisemitism as something against their rules? And moderates accordingly?
Babka Social uses IHRA.
That said, this has been both controversial and largely unnecessary.
For our non-Zionist community members (or slightly anti-Zionist community members), the IHRA is not universally liked because of it's Israel exceptionalism. IHRA says things like "Don't compare Israel/Israelis to Nazis." when they feel it should say "Don't compare Jews to Nazis." - Israel is covered but it's not exceptionalized.
Thus we take that position, that all places where Israel is exceptionalized by IHRA is de-exceptionalized by us.
Now, that said, there's an irony in that we actually would find that a vast, vast majority of what we moderate here is already covered under other antisemitism definitions, even ones I find extremely problematic.
In my opinion, as the admin of Babka Social, the key then isn't that an instance must use IHRA, but must use a defined definition, preferably one that is well known and has gone through some scrutiny.
I should also mention a quick moment of why we de-exceptionalize Israel as well as Israelis.
Israelis are de-exceptionalized because most Israelis are Jewish, though I do want to note that when discussing Israel, calling it a "Ethno-Nationalist" is completely wrong, because Israel's non-Jewish popularity is much higher than several European countries, and much higher than many East-Asian countries who are not accused of the same.
But why "Israel" itself? Because Israel as it is today is a Jewish nation. While some say that organizations should not be covered, I think that this argument shows its true intent when applied to other Jewish institutions.
Imagine comparing Hillel to the the Nazis.
Or the ADL.
Shockingly we have started to see this kind of hate-filled rhetoric online, and for all but the most disgusting, it's obvious what the motivations of the speaker are. In de-exceptionalizing Israel, we include, not exclude Israel from the same treatment.
@serge shockingly, anti-Israel bigots turn out to be antisemites
