A sneak peak of what we've been up to on the Ink track at Ink & Switch:
Flux — a fuzzy, flexible way to select things on a canvas. It's particularly nice for handwritten text.
I have, at times, described flux as "living science created in a lab”

@spiralganglion @TodePond sorry to interrupt—
@spiralganglion the whole "cooling flux" thing invokes the image of a blowtorch heating things. Or carving flow channels into the canvas for "molten stuff".
@spinningthoughts Yes! That's been the most fun part of this project. Flux is enticing because it takes something abstract ("dynamic selection") and gives it a really tangible / physical articulation. So we spend a lot of time trying to think of, like, the right metaphor to fully capture the behaviours we want it to have.
(We're going through a similar process with ink deformation. My favourite metaphor, so far, to describe a deformable ink stroke: it should behave like a "wet baguette”)
@spiralganglion strings of wet, stringy corn starch. Non-newtonian strings.
