@wokerati To be clear, they were also told in no uncertain terms by various campaigners, politicians, and a very broad swath of the media that Brexit would be awesome, actually, and as a bonus it would be a middle finger to those oppressing them.

@pettter Yes well David Cameron then prime minster (recently appointed Foreign Minister) called the referendum and headed the Remain side as it was pitched as the status quo.
Many people disenfranchised by his austerity following the 2008 FC, voted leave in protest. The leave vote was illegitimate according to the EC because it has no terms and was overseen by populist charlatans.
I'd still maintain that Farage was the biggest asset to the remain camp, despite leading the leave side.
