It’s something of a tradition among artists to do merfolk-themed art during the month of May—called Mermay—and this was what I did for 2023’s Mermay.

This was a valiant attempt to draw water as well for the very first time.

A year or so ago, I had something of an artistic crisis where I couldn’t let go of the thought that no one like my vector style—partly triggered by someone who suggested snidely that I should change my style to keep things fresh. I always struggled with the notion that my vector style wasn’t particularly welcome in the art community—a small segment of artists find vectors cheating evidently.

However, one artist—he is not on Pixelfed—dropped into my DMs and gave me much needed words of encouragement. A year later and after probably the best art year I’ve had at the time, I did this as a special thank you to him. This is his OC Rex, on the left, getting it on with Aaron, my OC on the right.

There is a NSFW version, but since this was a gift, I decided to make that largely exclusive to Patreon this time. Other NSFW pieces may show up here later, so don’t worry about that!
