We don’t mince our words, when it comes to misogynist creeps; we women in Ireland have fought long and hard to have autonomy, and we won’t be giving it up lightly. Or as one female TD put it ‘He can fuck off’ #ConorMcGregor #President #IrlPol #MastoDaoine

Sky · 'Not a hope in hell': Irish politicians roundly reject Conor McGregor's presidential bidBy Stephen Murphy

How pathetic are the #DUP #TUV and their tame troll 🚮? It seems to have escaped their attention that they live in IRELAND, and this is our national language; it’s legal, it’s used in Courts, in Stormont; has been used by our MPs in House of Commons, and by various members of the royal family on State visits to Ireland - north and south.
No one is holding their heads in a fixed position or forcing them to read anything in Irish. All the signage will also be available in English, for those who cannot tell the difference between Beal Feriste and Belfast.
🚮 aka Jamie Bryson is trying to lodge legal objection against Irish Language signage with the courts.
We have so many problems, not least the reduction in PIPs and other benefits, the negative effects of the new ETA, the problems being caused by the American administration worldwide; and this kind of bigotry is what gets them up in the morning. Sigh

This creep is one of the people FF & FG are in coalition with; and are doing all kinds to try and subvert the settled order of business in the Dáil in order to placate him. That they continue to be led by the nose by Lowry and his associates is a disgrace. The Opposition are having none of it, and are totally united in keeping the pressure on. #IrlPol
Lowry gesture 'unseemly and unbecoming' - Tánaiste rte.ie/news/politics/2025/0326

Watching Harris bemoan the unseemliness of yesterday's Dail proceedings from a foreign junket as if it was some random thing that happened instead of being a direct result of his personal decisions as leader of his party and member of the coalition; and then to say we have to draw a line and move on to deal with real issues when he's leading the party that spent the last twenty years in power without tackling those real issues...

...that's peak Irish Politics shitebaggery right there.

Isn't it so Irish to chance your arm, get away with it, and the instant you get called on it, lead off with "Well this is an unseemly argument and we must draw a line under it now and move on".

But the moment something arises where a quick action would resolve the problem - like, say arguing about the mass grave in Tuam instead of getting on the train to Tuam with a shovel and a camera, which would have avoided months of Terry Prone-ing everyone - we waffle till we fall asleep.

3 of the political parties appear to have received ~1/5 of the votes each. The marginally loudest of the 3 will no doubt be out-sung by the other 2 jointly, assuming a bulk of the remaining 2/5 of the choir can sing a coherent backing chorus. It will take weeks for the choir to rehearse, and who knows who'll be the chosen soloist. Though probably yet another duet.

Maybe someday we'll scrap the choir and hire a DJ...

I had missed that Renua had rebranded as the Centre Party. I mean, the name was red flaggy as all hell and the website reinforced that (imagery is so deeply USian right wing badness), but yeah, that simple rebrand info would have been enough. #irlpol
