"16. Peli, joka on sallittu kaikille"

Leppoisat pelit ovat tänä päivänä yksi puhutuimmista peligenreistä ja itselleni genren ehdoton ykkönen on Dorfromantik.

Dorfromantikissa rakennetaan maaseutua kuusikulmio kerrallaan. Pinosta nostetaan kuusikulmio kerrallaan ja siinä olevat kylät, metsät, pellot, niityt, vesistöt ja rautatiet asetellaan edellisten viereen rakentaen mielenkiintoisia ympäristöjä.

"24. Peli, joka näyttää visuaalisesti upealta"

Firewatch on peli, joka sopisi moneen kategoriaan, mutta valitsin visuaalisesti upean.

Pelasin sen tänään läpi varmaan 20. kerran ja joka kerta peli säväyttää. Sen visuaalisen kaunis kansallispuisto näyttää upealta kaikissa eri säätiloissa ja vuorokaudenajoissa ukkosmyrskystä auringonlaskuun.

Firewatch is a game that has had a big impact on me. In April 2025, I replayed it for the Helmet Gaming Challenge and while it would fit multiple categories (like extreme weather, game I’d like a sequel for, world I’d like to live in and visually stunning), I decided to use it for the visually stunning category.

"22. Peli, jonka maailmassa et missään nimessä haluaisi asua"

Haasteen toiseksi peliksi valitsin tämän kriteerin pohjalta vanhan suosikin eli Half-Life 2:n.

25 vuodessa on menny muutama markka lisää..

5. A game where fire is used
6. A game where the characters eat goodies

You'd think a game with fire would be easy to find, and it would've been, had I chosen any of the myriad games in which sorcerers throw fire spells, hunters fire incendiary arrows or soldiers throw grenades. However, I somehow couldn't find any that I either hadn't played yet or wanted to try.

So I went browsing through spouse's game library and came across a horror game called Little Nightmares.

4. A game you have on your shelf but have not played yet

Oh, damn. What to choose! I have a to-be-played pile that stretches to the dawn of time. In the end I narrowed this down to three games: What Remains of Edith Finch, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and Nier: Automata, all published in 2017. Wonder what it was about that year that took my attention... Oh right, Horizon: Zero Dawn.

3. A game with riding

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a game I've been meaning to play for a long time. And I mean long - it's turning 10 years old in May. I played the first two instalments back when the stars were young and I've also read the books, so I don't really know why it's taken me so long to get to this.

But now that they announced the next game in the series, I thought it was time.

A bit behind schedule but here goes.

2. A game that gets you moving

Technically, all games get me moving. I'm the kinda player who kindly helps their characters jump by also bouncing up on their seat. But somehow I don't think that really counts.

All in all there have ever only been three games that have actually gotten me moving, and those are Pokémon Go, Ring Fit Adventure and then the game I chose for this: Just Dance.

Let the challenge begin!

1. A game with extreme weather events.

Spouse suggested I could play No Man's Sky for this, because the weather on some of the planets is quite inhospitable to say the least. But it's not really my kinda game, and also I got discouraged for a bit from trying anything new after the unfortunate events of last week.

So instead I chose Horizon: Forbidden West for this.

Helmet, as in Helsinki Metropolitan Area Libraries, has for 11 years now published reading challenges with 50 tasks such as "read a book with cats in it" in order to encourage people to read more. I've never taken part, mostly because my ability to read books is so dependent on my condition.

But now they've also published a game challenge with 24 tasks. This I feel I could do, since gaming is one of the few things that has the capability to distract me from my various pains.
