New account, so new #introduction. Let's do it again!

I have a
#MastersDegree in #ComputerScience and #ComputerEngineering. I went to #NMU for undergrad and #MSU for my graduate degree. I currently work at #UChicago for the #TMWCenter, which focuses on helping young children acquire language (and therefore other learning skills) faster.

In my spare time, I develop
#OpenSourceSoftware such as
- a
#SphinxDoc extension that embed #Fediverse comments on your page
- a library to talk to
#ManifoldMarkets from native #Python
- a
#PredictionMarket manager using the above
- a
#transpiler from a subset of Python to #OpenStreetMaps's #OverpassQL
- bug fixes to many other projects, including
#mypy, #base58, #attrs, #CPython, & more

I spend a fair bit of my time these days on
#MathResearch, specifically into the #ThueMorse Sequence and its extensions.

I'm also a hobbyist editor on OpenStreetMap.

#Demisexual, #transfem, and happily engaged to my #enby sweetheart.

We have two cats:
#OpheTheLoaf and #MayalaranTheCat (yes, from #StormlightArchive) See here for more on them!

I speak English fluently, Spanish haltingly, and am trying to learn Chinese

TransFem SpaceOlivia A-C (@LivInTheLookingGlass)These are our cats, #OpheTheLoaf and #MayalaranTheCat. Ophelia was originally my partner's, we live together full time now, and are an integrated family Fun facts about Ophelia: * She is missing a tooth, so her lip sometimes gets stuck open in a cute way * She has an "activation noise" that sounds kinda like a pigeon * She will often do 10/10 loafs, hence the nickname Some facts about Maya: * Her favorite hobby is judging the neighbors * She is very anxious * She has an incredibly dainty play style * She has a series of increasingly ridiculous nicknames: Mayalaran -> Maya -> Mayo -> Aioli -> Au Jus (Follow the hashtags if you want just my cats) #CatsOfMastodon #CatsOfFedi (📎8)

Oh dang, my #introduction post is waaay out of date now. Let's do it again!

I'm not ready enough to send it to a real preprint server, but here is the current version of my Prouhet-Thue-Morse paper. It contains:

  • 21 definitions of the standard sequence (2 original)
  • 9 definitions of the extended sequence (5 original, 1 concurrently discovered)
  • several proofs of equivalence
  • partial complexity analyses
  • partial analyses of whether properties are preserved
  • about a dozen conjectures, some with partial proofs

did i mention that the Thue-Morse sequence makes for a relentless drum beat?

basically what i did here is take the sequence and map 0 to a lower drum and 1 to a higher drum. given the properties of the sequence, this would allow to extend the beat infinitely without ever fully repeating.

i think the right way to do that would be to code it. i, however, did it by hand in LMMS 😅.

Would anyone be interested in proofreading a research paper, or helping with a literature search on the topic? I am currently in the process of writing a paper that collects definitions of the Thue-Morse Sequence, and extending as many of them as possible from base 2 to base n. I believe I've collected 12 definitions of the original sequence, but I feel somewhat confident that there are more that I am missing. Additionally, I would like to be able to cite them from as many places as possible. Any advice would be much appreciated

so i was wondering what the #hitomezashi pattern with a #thueMorse sequence (used horizontally and vertically) looks like. so here you go 😃!

it's mildly trippy and definitely thue-morse-y.

it's made by hand in inkspace, but i should probably code it to try more variations…

James Grime is back! Last week, he was seen posting a video about chess. It was about how to avoid repetition during a game:

An today came a nice feature explaining why the popular ELO scoring system is the way it is:
