Good morning Fedi friends!
I've got an etiquette question for you.
I'm in the process of setting up my #GoToSocial self-hosted instance. I'm excited about the idea of using custom #emojis.
I read @stefan's post on this topic (https://stefanbohacek.com/blog/custom-fediverse-emoji/), looked up custom emojis from several instances and saved a bunch (see screenshot).
My question: is it ok to copy custom emojis from other instances and use them on your own? (There doesn't seem to be attribution for it)
#GoToSocial makes uploading and organizing custom #emojis so easy. Here is what I have so far
I've been having way too much fun adding custom emojis to my #GoToSocial #selfhosted instance.
And @cybertailor deserves a trophy for answering my question from earlier today, namely: how do you credit custom emoji creators?
The Pleroma custom repo has attributions for hundreds (maybe thousands) of custom emojis. Wow! On this page you can find the artist/creator behind so many of them (organized by topic):
@_elena @cybertailor What I’m kinda missing - at least on the official Mastodon Instance - is a Plushtodon emoji. Or some other distinctly recognizable Emoji for Mastodon.
I think this could also strengthen the brand and increase recognition value etc…
It definitely would be unique.
Great findings with regard to crediting emoji creators!
