Musk didn’t invent Tesla, he bought it
Musk didn’t invent SpaceX, he bought it
Musk didn’t invent Starlink, he bought it
Musk didn’t invent “X,” he bought it
Musk didn’t invent Trump, he bought him

- Nazir Afzal

@MEActNOW too simplistic of a view.

Even taking the most shallow view on this:
1. He had the money.
2. By your phrasing of "trying to discredit Musk despite .." it implicitly hides that the companies are doing well, so superficially you have also admitted that the acquisitions were pretty good choices.
And those are the two most superficial implicits hidden in there already.

@cobratbq @MEActNOW X lost 75% of its value after he bought it, and Tesla stock has been described by investors as "value of which is so divorced from reality as to be meaningless to invest in or to short."

Teslas have been selling fewer of their vehicles every quarter, and their Cybertruck has been recalled 6 times, and the demand has fallen through the floor.

SpaceX is entirely dependent on government money, and likely would be shut down if anyone got around to investigating the safety standards they are supposed to be held to.

When Musk said that he would likely be in prison if Trump wasn't elected, it's not because he's being unfairly prosecuted.

@jhooper @cobratbq @MEActNOW I think you're right about everything except SpaceX shutting down.

None of their competitors are any safer or more reliable or less corrupt, so getting shut down is unlikely

@ikanreed @cobratbq @MEActNOW The launches of SpaceX rockets kick up huge amounts of dirt and other debris because he's too cheap to have his employees properly prepare the site. That's an indication that he cuts corners in really stupid ways, and I bet you that's just the tip of the iceberg.

@jhooper @cobratbq @MEActNOW

RE
dependent on

Why give him funding? What is he, the oil industry?

And the big thing is has became a flaming asteroid of crap text, but that's what I read from from us Mastodon folks.

And why, even the fair info folks still say the richest guy in the world?

There are many families with similar estimated amounts

@6G @cobratbq @MEActNOW I'm pretty sure it fluctuates wildly on the Tesla stock value, as that's where Musk keeps most of his money tied up in.

Oh, he also lost a huge bonus he tried to give himself when he was sued by Tesla shareholders.

@cobratbq @MEActNOW

@jhooper
RE

That's true, 55 billion USD

And isn't it fucked that these guys who say they HATE govt departments for mismanagement and waste, are so hungry to be the only deciders in cutting their department?

The first area to be LOOKED at to be CUT is the excessive funding THEY get!

@cobratbq @MEActNOW he had the money, if he hadn't had the money he couldn't have bought anything. it doesn't even matter if he made a choice others could have made instead

@greensofshade @MEActNOW hmmm .. I think it is more a matter of making exactly *those* choices given that you have the means. Of course anyone can make the choice, but isn't the difficulty in making the choices as he did. (And of course, there is no guarantee that there were many way better choices. That's an aspect that is left out of scope right now.)

As for the money, yup, without money no deal.

@cobratbq @MEActNOW also, with that amount of money, there are no failing deals. Still the ego you also are mistaking for talent

@cobratbq @MEActNOW Well, his money is more of his father's achievement than his. I'm not saying it weren't good investments to buy those companies, it definitely paid off, but some people praise Musk like he is genius when all he did is just couple good investments on his father's money and that's it.

@cobratbq @MEActNOW Ah, yes, it's important to point out that he bought them with blood diamond money. Good catch!

@MEActNOW which one, if any, haven't failed?
I was thinking Starlink but then remembered the incidence in Ukraine...

@MEActNOW
My only issue with this post is your choice to depart from the form by assigning a masc pronoun to Turnip; and it's not a significant issue, merely mild disappointment.

@MEActNOW and how have they done under his management? Better or worse?

The dream of every VC funded startup is for someone like Musk to buy them at an enriching price. That is the prevailing model in the tech industry.

@MEActNOW we could probably create a fracture there by pushing this more tbh. make it a clash of egos thing and it Will fail

@MEActNOW
Exactly. This is the reason we need to destroy Leon and MAGA. We have no choice if we want to save American Democracy. Are you with us?

@MEActNOW He founded SpaceX, StarLink, Boring Co., SolarCity, NeuraLink and xAI

@MEActNOW

I've seen this meme before, but according to Wikipedia, Musk is the founder of SpaceX (he didn't buy it), and Starlink was developed by SpaceX (he also didn't buy that).

Perhaps we should leave creating "alternative facts" to the right wing.

@bodhipaksa @MEActNOW
What would be more accurate is that he doesn't actually have enough understanding of space travel or the physics involved to actually do the engineering, so he paid a bunch of engineers to build the company for him. Sure, on paper, he founded the company, but the reality is he's just the money guy. Outside of programming some financial stuff in the 90s, he's never been anything but the money guy.

And that's part of the egomania that drives him: he knows that he doesn't actually do anything useful, so he has to expand his power and reach to compensate for it.

@Raccoon @MEActNOW To be fair, Henry Ford couldn't build cars and Edison had a team of 100 technicians develop the light bulb. Musk apparently pushed SpaceX to abandon old ways of building/flying rockets, and it's paid off. But he's also had totally crazy ideas that they've had to humor & make sure never got implemented. He's erratic, but hasn't always been without vision. I suspect he's increasingly gone off the rails, though, because of drugs and Twitter poisoning. archive.ph/vvOGD

@MEActNOW Can we please start posting less falsehoods on Mastodon? By no reasonable definition did Musk 'buy' Starlink or SpaceX.

(Yes, he did buy X and Tesla)

The unreliability of the most promoted content on this platform is a real issue.

@MEActNOW @pluralistic That’s false. Musk created SpaceX and Starlink.

@MEActNOW

When Musk bought Tesla, I was told he was a genius. I don’t know anything about electric cars, so I said okay.
When Musk bought SpaceX, I was told he was a genius. I don’t know anything about rockets, so I said okay.
When Musk bought Xwitter, I was told he was a genius. Except that I know something about computers, and I’ve seen the crap he’s said, and especially the crap he’s done !
Since then, I’ve sworn to stay away from his rockets and cars.

@MEActNOW@mastodon.social

This is exactly what you have to do if you want to become the King of the World!

@MEActNOW everything else true, but Musk did found SpaceX. The company did not exist in any way, shape or form before or without him. This is not an endorsement of SpaceX's existence or activities, merely a factual statement. It is definitely not an endorsement of Musk, without whom mankind would most certainly be better off.

@MEActNOW Huh? I mean, yes, Musk bought Tesla (7 months after it was founded), Musk bought Twitter.

He did start SpaceX, Starlink is a product of SpaceX. He also started the companies X (which became PayPal), xAI, the Boring company and Neuralink.

Musk a horrible horrible person and proof that money and information doesn't prevent you from red pilling - and he obviously bought the election, but saying he invented or didn't invent things (he's not an inventor) just doesn't make sense to me.. 🤷

@MEActNOW out of South Africa, isn't he.

Among that diaspora there are some spores of their old, failed, evil, system.

@MEActNOW you’re telling me fascists can’t create and instead appropriate?????

@MEActNOW I am not a native English speaker... But you do not "invent" a company... You ground it... (correct me if I am wrong)

@MEActNOW

And that is fully true…

@MEActNOW Trump has always been for sale

@MEActNOW Musk did in fact start Tesla and SpaceX, so perhaps I missed something here?

@MEActNOW

@MEActNOW While not accepting any actions by Elon today, that song is lying in multiple occasions... Or at minimum it's not exactly correct. I dislike everything he is today but I'm also objective on truth, even on people that I proactively hate.
