@arstechnica Your bot just dumped 19 articles into my and every other follower's timeline in a single run. Please don't do that: I follow hundreds of accounts and I don't want any one of them to crowd out everyone else. Post articles one at a time as they show up on your site.

This is not Xitter. There is no ranked feed. Reposting your own content over and over is not the engagement hack you might think it is. All it will get you is followers like me walking away.

@angdraug @arstechnica They also don't use alt text/image description for accessibility & equity. We should probably dump them anyway.

@angdraug @arstechnica
I feel the same. If it becomes a problem I just put the account on mute and navigate to their timeline periodically if I think they may have content that interests me.

@angdraug @arstechnica I just took a quick scroll through their posting history, and it looks like a one-way, unread, posting-bot. Amazing, I thought we all learned never to do that in the early days of bird-site

@angdraug @arstechnica

I think this is a legitimate issue for media/journalism accounts. I see the same from other publications and media outlets like The Guardian, the HT, etc.

It's a difficult thing to navigate here because of the fewer accounts that people have access to on non-algo platforms, so our feeds become disproportionately populated with this kind of mass(ish) media content.

@prachisrivas @angdraug @arstechnica yeah, I'm torn

I want to signal to them that I think they should exist here on Mastodon, but I also don't actually read their posts here really, I go directly to their website or use RSS

@jokeyrhyme @prachisrivas @arstechnica Ars Technica is one of a handful of news sources I primarily read via their website (and Pocket/Omnivore for longer reads), yet I find it useful when their article (singular) pops up in my timeline. Ideally, as a conversation anchor here on Fedi (which imho doesn't happen enough), but also just as a notification that there's something worth reading.

@angdraug @arstechnica

I went and had a look at the Ars Technica feed and it seems it stopped working two days ago. Someone must have restarted the publishing tool and that’s why it’s blasted us with the entire backlog.

A small oversight that a “sleep(541)” after each toot could solve.

@angdraug @arstechnica i was thinking the same thing. Thank to put words on it.

@angdraug @arstechnica

I generally don’t mind their normal posts, but I definitely don’t need to see tons of “Prime Day Dealz” posts like has happened this week.

@angdraug @arstechnica As much as I love Ars Technica and read it daily, the exact thing you mentioned (dumps of articles) is exactly why I stopped following the on Mastodon.

@angdraug @arstechnica and while at it, please add ALT text to the images, you have the resources!
