@eff The question is only significant because Microsoft had an anticompetitive monopoly, ruled illegal, but never really remedied.
DOS was terribly buggy and Windows just continued the legacy of bad software.

I remember discussing MS Windows 1.0 with work colleagues while we were happily using MSDOS on Compaq's.

I think the boss got 2.0 to play with.
Later I got 3.1 and VB to do some touchscreen prototyping.
