I am looking for people with experience with or other approaches. Thumbs up / down, lessons learned?

@ewolff Just have set up Mastodon, will look into Peertube later in 2023. So my experience is -1. ;-)

@ewolff I administered two #Owncast servers with streams up to 300 people. Do you have any specific questions?

@moanos I am just wondering whether it’s worth my time. I guess you sort of already answered that… 😉

@ewolff I have a short writeup from one of my smaller events, maybe that helps even more. What's not in there: More people make a CDN very worth it when your server struggles

@moanos great, thanks! 🙂 I don’t think there will be that many people on the stream so I think I should be fine without a CDN. Also I understand I could use S3 which should solve bandwidth issues.

@ewolff I've setup a peertube instance, uploaded a video and linked to my video from mastodon and found it fairly easy.

@herdsoft I am using Peertube but I am looking for a live streaming solution. tchncs.de only allows 10 viewers on Peertube streams (which I totally understand).

@ewolff @feedbeat combines webrtc vico and rtmp streaming in a single solution. People can interact directly with the actors via chat and live audience. Several hundreds of viewers are possible.

@ewolff I watch all the videos from @thelinuxEXP on #Peertube. He may has interesting insights to share.

@romix @ewolff I have never tried owncast or Peertube streaming, so I don’t think I’ll be of great help here!
