One consequence of the go-go Obama years and the reactionary Trump aftermath is there’s an entire generation of otherwise smart adults who never had to figure out why things are the way they are. So they end up, a full decade too late, mystified that the electric car rockets guy is a fascist or the sentient bowling balls who funded the app-based lifestyles of the 2010s are trying to reinstitute feudalism.
Turns out those liberal arts educations are worth something after all.

@jimray That last line...that was literally what I was thinking through that whole paragraph: "wait, I was taught these things".
But most of human history has been like that. Granted, it wasn't democracy, but the basic rules of aristocrats using the serfs as cannon fodder to overthrow the king, or the czar's men using pogroms to sate middle-class bloodlust were the same.
We've successfully shackled Leviathan and so of course people are going to try to cut off the chains.
It has nothing to do with liberal arts education and everything to do with regular cluelessness. I mean, the History Channel is supposed to be mostly WW2 documentaries for the last 10 years, anyone who isn't seeing the parallels is being willfully blind.
