we are collaborating with FKcaps once again to bring the traditional "typewriter" stagger to the next MNT Reform keyboard variant. this required 2 new keycap molds for Kailh Choc (1.25U and 1.75U), as well as a new 2U spacebar. this version will make it easy for people to switch from traditional keyboards to the MNT Reform keyboard and laptop.
@mntmn You’re probably already on it, but I’d love to see something like this on the upcoming Pocket too (I’m already considering doing my own keyboard layout for it). Ortholinear keyboards make so much sense to me and are aesthetically beautiful, but they really do a number on my RSI .
@jbmorley oh, i'm sorry to hear this!
@mntmn It’s deeply frustrating, for sure. I think mostly it’s a muscle memory thing—the process of reaching for keys and finding they’re not quite where I think they are causes me to contort my hands in unhelpful ways. Perhaps I’m too impatient and need to let myself take longer over learning a new layout.
@jbmorley @mntmn i find ortholinears comfortable because my shoulders are too wide to really have the hands perpendicular to the keyboard, they come at a considerate angle even in resting position on the home row. I also did not have much trouble adapting to the 1u distances though
Maybe check out unibodies? These ones inspired on split keyboards but fusing the halves back together. I got one last year and it felt like the natural next step (I ended up reselling it because it had one too few keys)
