masochism level: it would be interesting to run xilinx vivado on box64
gnarly... but fun to imagine the eldritch machine sputtering when running an x64 java VM with JNI JITted to aarch64
it says it's gonna take 4 hours! so bandwidth in this layer cake of emulation is both bad and surprisingly good
@mntmn Nächstes Mal aber mit CN Warnung!
@mntmn NO just NO!!! Xilinx a long time ago taught me to never use there "software"
@mntmn this... was not the promise of java...
@ec0 no, i'm extremely disappointed in xilinx/amd's complete abuse of java here... shipping their own VM and then a ton of random native libraries in folders like "Rhel" and "Ubuntu" that have to be loaded in. lol! software engineering at its absolute worst, 0/10 points
@mntmn Nah that's just the Xilinx installer for you. It runs that slow on X86-64 on some modern hardware inexplicably while consuming all CPU cores.
I wonder, is there JVM abomination that JIT compiles bytecode to aarch64, but uses box64 for JNI? Can it even work?
@mntmn will be hard to tell the regular Vivado crashes from the emulation crashes
