Is it just me, or has Microsoft gone completely crazy? They are implementing spyware that takes screenshots every second and forcing AI integration. Why would anyone willingly purchase this? Anyone with experience in computer or information security knows that it is a bad idea, even if it is locally done. Just don't do it. Yet, here we are, and they are doubling down on this idea. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/05/microsofts-new-recall-feature-will-record-everything-you-do-on-your-pc/ #privacy #security
At this point, Apple should simply skip deep AI integration in iOS and macOS. Focus on third-party apps for LLM. Capture more market share while Microsoft is busy pushing spyware. Tim Cook, this WILL BE YOUR legacy, not Vision Pro. This will be useful for those who need Adobe (i know another monster) or other apps for work stuff. Otherwise, Linux on desktop will cover your needs.
@nixCraft Apple would have to ditch hardware lock-in...
@nixCraft
Wait, Apple? Apple!?!
@nixCraft I have little hope that my privacy will not become a subscription service if I don’t switch from Mac to Linux. But, it’ll be ok if/when I do make the switch.
@nixCraft Why can't Linux ever have Adobe Photoshop and other industry standard tools, aside from the low market share?
@Talon1024
For one thing, Adobes software on mac at least does not support case sensitive filesystems. Learned that the hard way :(
@nixCraft
@Talon1024 @nixCraft I’m sure market share is more than sufficient reason.
@nixCraft @Talon1024 In my best “not a developer” and “not my products” voice, I’ll say probably not. But market share is an IMMENSE reason. How long ago was it the year of Linux on the desktop?
