Found a cool little #Linux app on GitHub. Clone the repo and build it. Used it daily. Found a bug. Reported it. No response. Turns out, the developer's been dead for 5 years. Yet, the updates never stopped. Spooky, yet efficient! Perfect!!!
@nixCraft it would be worse if the repo was owned by his employer ... zombie dev employee ...
@nixCraft I can totally see this happen with renovatebot or dependabot, and automatic merge, and release if the tests pass.
@nixCraft Big Ray Bradbury "There Will Come Soft Rains" vibes
@tswartz07 @nixCraft I am reminded of elements of Bradbury's dystopian works far too often.
@nixCraft I daily use an android app that the dev died 10 years ago. All his web sites have bee taken over by Russian hackers and thankfully it's still on Playstore for sale which is weird. No idea where the the money is going for the paid version.
@GoatsLive it is possible that family is getting money via estate
@csolisr Trademark that!!!
@nixCraft "but you can still come to work, right?"
@nixCraft And I bet the updates only comes out in the month of All Hollows Eve
@nixCraft Perhaps she/he timed the future updates, like people do with LinkedIn posts...
