If you don't already have a VPN -- get one NOW.
I wrote a book for this moment that Adafruit calls "the techno-resistance cookbook"

@violetblue I'm trying to figure out how I can establish a VPN for my entire home network with my palo firewall... maybe an ipsec tunnel to someplace in a better AWS region?
@violetblue Thanks for sharing this! Any new editions / updates planned, given where we find ourselves today? :)
@violetblue Is there a non Amazon option for epub? I saw on the direct link it's a PDF. Couldn't tell on the adafruit store what format it was.
@jwilker @violetblue Hm... yeah. Noticed that as well. Seconded. Please provide a non-Amazon epub option.
@violetblue Thx! Will check the book out (I have been using @mullvadnet for ages by the way).
Also: I will *never* buy anything from Amazon.
@violetblue And get a travel router to encrypt traffic.
@violetblue There was a story recently on a government involved in a middle east war having significant control on many vpn's, so there is that.
@Smrki @violetblue They don’t own Mullvad (a privately-held Swedish company) or Proton (Swiss). Can’t vouch for anyone else.
@acb @violetblue Companies are sold, along with data.
@Smrki @violetblue If companies don’t collect data (as Mullvad doesn’t, and has audits to prove), there’s less to sell.
@violetblue@mastodon.social And use Tor with it to access sensitive stuff. That way you'll be considered using an innocent enough VPN (prob to bypass streaming region restriction) while actually using Tor.
@violetblue
A lot of VPNs are even shadier than ISPs, it's important to research before buying into one.
No, I won't recommend one. Last time I did, just a few months later they were found to be sharing user data.
