i now own an ebike :3

i'm physically disabled and both walking _and_ using UK public transit is hard, for various reasons; while expensive this is a much wanted improvement in mobility

the degree of assist provided by the shimano e5000 drivetrain is actually right on the edge of the level of exertion i can sustainably afford, so i was worried for a while that i couldn't use it after all, but i think it works in the end; i need additional skill and a lot more care in riding though.

it's kind of rough to face the fact that riding a bike at moderate speed on city sidewalks for 20 minutes can completely drain me to the point where I can't think and have difficulty standing, unless I pay close attention to pacing the entire time and prioritize that over just about anything else that isn't direct safety

disability sucks

i think this experience will probably improve at least a bit as i ride it more, and by no means am i willing to just _let_ fibromyalgia define my life, but it's not something i can count on in the short term.

@whitequark I don't have fibromyalgia or any other disability so I can't compare on that point, but I can tell you that e-biking became way easier with practice

@galibert so my issues are related to any physical exertion. even walking to a shop one block away with not much weight would often leave me lying down for a hour after; it's really bad sometimes

@whitequark I don’t have fibromyalgia specifically but I can tell you that in two years I went from barely able to bike a hundred meters after a long time sick in bed to biking 30 km in one day
