I have seen people posting about keeping a journal instead of publicly blogging. I like the idea but hadn't found a good solution. Didn't want paper, and couldn't trust any $company.

Some recommended but it's run by (the ppl) which is melting down about

I chose since it has an encryption option, and put it on a web server that only listens on a interface.

@cdevroe I haven't checked out Obsidian, does it do at-rest encryption?

@woltiv @cdevroe since it's all local files the answer depends on your sync method. The official Obsidian Sync service is end-to-end encrypted which is more secure than at rest.

@billseitz That the journal would ever be stored on an unencrypted disk (or I suppose a disk that's encrypted that I don't control the encryption of)

@woltiv if your computer has disk encryption turned on, then why does your notes app need its own encryption? Because of synching to other devices?

@billseitz Yes, I'd like that extra layer so I know that it's encrypted wherever it might get stored

@woltiv Android does encrypted disk and there is an app to work on local tiddlywiki files (tiddloid) ... you don't need a server!

@tetrislife Thank you, but I don't have an Android phone rn.

@woltiv I am guessing iOS also does disk encryption?
