If Elon Musk actually leaves DOGE in May, don’t celebrate. And don't let up. Escaping accountability is his whole game. He’s a Nazi, propping up fascism, wrecking lives, and laundering cruelty. Keep the pressure on. Torch his brand. Shatter his legacy. Make sure history spits on his name.

It is daylight savings time in the EU. So before you go to bed tonight, please remember to change the time to January 21, 2029.

When you wake up tomorrow, Ukraine has won the war, Elon Musk is in jail, Trump has died from a blood clot, JD Vance has lost the US election to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Bernie Sanders is now Vice President.

So please — and I cannot stress this enough — remember to change the time.

All anti-mask laws—even those with so called “medical exceptions”—stigmatize mask-wearing.

Fewer people wearing masks increases the spread of infectious diseases.

No matter how lawmakers try to spin it, any law that criminalizes wearing a mask endangers public health. Period.

concept: a show like ramsay's kitchen nightmares, but about software instead

"i'm at spunkchute, a SaaS company that owes $2 million to AWS and is on the brink of closure”

"oh my [bleep] god. the main database server is running Ubuntu 8.04 and has two backdoors and a coin miner. SHUT. IT. DOWN.”

What a lot of people are scared of is young people thinking for themselves, with access to all the world's knowledge, because they won't support the status quo they've built.

Did you know? Chromosome testing in sports has been done before and was stopped because cisgender people repeatedly learned that their chromosomes didn’t match their assigned sex. — Something the “XX and XY only” crowd seems to have forgotten.

A Mastodon milestone.
According to my phone this my three thousandth toot.
It is hard to believe that I've had so much to show and tell.
The thing is, that I showed up here uninvited, and with zero social media experience. My grandkids thought this might be the best place for me to lurk if I wanted Covid updates coming from people that were actually knowledgeable. So, I dipped my toe in the social media pond.
They thought there was a good chance some pretty smart people, were to be found here, if I looked.
It turned out I was to find so much more than knowledge.
There is overt kindness and acceptance here and I didn't have to look far to find it.
You found me.
I am thankful.
The fact that you are overwhelmingly smart, and kind, and that you generously share your expertise, is a bonus.
I am privileged to inhabit a small space in your digital community.
The photo is from our walk this morning.

"Doroudi’s attorney, David Rozas, told the AP: 'In the words of his fiancé, he is a nerd. All he does is study and is literally trying to fulfill his dream, the American dream, of becoming a researcher and professor of mechanical engineering.' Rozas also said that Doroudi had 'not been arrested for any crime, nor has he participated in any anti-government protests.'"

You know you can tax the rich right now, right? Just shift where you spend your money.

Support your local coffee shop instead of a big chain. Shop at farmers' markets. Eat at local restaurants. Buy from mom-and-pop stores. Choose independent brands over corporate giants.

Yes, it might cost a little more, but you're redirecting money away from corporations that thrive on low wages and putting it straight into your community—where it can grow, support jobs, and build something better.

You are effectively taxing the rich.

Oh, Muskie, my sweet. Yes, we do want to destroy your "influence" (= complete control), because we believe in democracy. Where ordinary people (remember them?) have a say.

And no, the "Nazi stuff" isn't fake. We saw you, light of my life, heart of my heart's desiring, we *saw* you make a Nazi salute. We *know* you enabled a fascist president, and spent $400 million to get him elected. We *know* you supported the neo-nazi AfD in Germany.

*You* are the evil one.

Very pleasant day of talking to family (including talking my parents through setting up Signal, yay), cooking projects, watching a movie (one upside to a shitty weather day), and saying hello to all the crows who apparently migrated back here today.

Mama goats are in the barn for (4 days), and my incubator is only running 1 degree cold currently so maybe the will still be happening? I'm guessing at least 1 day late (Monday, not tomorrow).

Read this now: linkedin.com/posts/harriet-kir, by a young woman from U.S. Institute for Peace. Fired by DOGE yesterday, she writes eloquently about USIP and more.

I re-affirmed that oath at every promotion through the rank of Captain. In 2021, I left the military and joined the U.S. Institute of Peace. To some, the move seemed counterintuitive: from war to peace. But the reasons were the same, I wanted to help protect America. USIP provides unique value to Americans as a Congressionally funded non-partisan institute that maintains relationships throughout the world regardless of the ever-changing executive branch. USIP exists primarily to inform Congress on foreign affairs and test out peace building programs in conflict-prone regions. When Afghanistan fell, I lived at USIP for weeks with colleagues to help provide safe passage to American citizens and allies. I was also privileged to support USIP’s Southeast Asia team mapping out transnational criminals. These criminals use crypto scams to steal from Americans and fund violence around the world. The team’s work led to U.S. government action that financially defended Americans and helped stabilize the region. I applaud every legal effort to improve government efficiency. However, getting rid of USIP makes the world more dangerous. Just like a world without vaccines will be full measles, a world without USIP will have more conflict. The blame for the future increase in global conflicts is quite clear: Trump. America is not one of his companies that he can bankrupt when he gets it wrong. Global conflicts will rise, more countries will seek nuclear weapons in response, Americans will pay the price, and the Trump Administration will be responsible. Equally importantly, Trump has no authority to eliminate USIP. As a Congressionally mandated organization in a privately funded building, USIP can be changed by Congressional action alone. I am confident the courts will eventually agree, but USIP will join the long list of democratic norms and institutions that are irreparably harmed by the Trump administration. I will always want the best for America. Sadly, I am certain that without USIP’s efforts, Americans will suffer in a more dangerous world. I am so grateful for my time at USIP and the incredible professionalism that my colleagues brought to every issue. I will always cherish the selfies and texts of Americans and allies who made it out of Afghanistan because of our efforts. I hope when Americans grow tired of violent conflict, government chaos, and economic recession brought on by the Trump administration, we can build on this imperfect system that for nearly 80 years has brought unprecedented global stability and American prosperity knowing more than ever that a rising tide lifts all boats. PS: For the record, the best DOG(E) to enter USIP is this street dog who checked in on me during our 24/7 effort to evacuate Americans from Afghanistan. | 177 comments on LinkedIn

If Trump succeeds in torpedoing the economy and causing a recession, decimating tourism and air travel to the US, and weakening industrial production, he may cause a substantial drop in US emissions of climate-destroying gases and help us meet our Paris Agreement commitment.
