Both for the Baltimore bridge collapse and the Xz backdoor, the fediverse was the first and main source of information before traditional media and other social platforms.
That's two main worldwide repercussion level events in one week
The pace will only increase the more we share, the more we write, the more we read...
@Barredo who reported on them here?
@Barredo cats and dog pics!!!!
@Barredo more important thwcbeing first, my timeline warns me for hoax or fake news. It doesn't shows me the algorithm driven fake news.
That kind of feels like confirmatory bias, I don't know of anyone doing the analytics that used to make sense on Twitter.
@Barredo
Nitpick: the bridge collapse doesn't qualify as "worldwide" in my book
@Barredo Which fedi sources and stories are you referring to, exactly?
@Barredo
a bridge in the USA is stretching the definition of "worldwide repercussion level" somewhat.
And I also doubt very much that first responders in Baltimore found out first on social media, rather than the reported Mayday call that was given before the collision occurred.
The more people share false or hyperbolic claims like this, the less people care about social media in general and the less I use it.
