I agree with this from @Rural_Canadian. The mechanisms are subtle, the subtleties are many — but it ultimately comes down to the obvious conclusion: people with a lot of money are trying to buy control of our sense of reality. And to a disheartening degree, they’re succeeding. https://photog.social/@Rural_Canadian/113233972364526243
A post like this will no double attract replies of the the form “Well •I’m• immune to that because I do [contrarian thing]” and…like, lovely, good for you, guess what, the oligarchs simply don’t give a shit. Your individual habits and mine are an acceptable minor inefficiency for them.
This is not a thing where individual action can help.
@Catfish_Man
What is this, and how do I gain this XP?
@inthehands Disco Elysium! Somehow a group of depressed Eastern European communists managed to ship a long philosophical ramble as a really good game.
@Catfish_Man
Man, I really need to play it one of these days.
@Catfish_Man @inthehands I don’t think there are any Eastern European communists left
@lorentey @inthehands probably true, but there are people who sit in coffee shops and philosophize about the old days…
…which is a theme the game goes into quite a lot
