, we have a troll problem.

Increasingly I discover Russian sympathisers and trolls who reply to my posts with content I cannot see. I only discover these replies because other users react to them.

Attached is an example where @Gurre replies to a troll (pic 1), but I cannot scroll upwards and see the troll's post.

This seems to allow an attacker to attach content to my posts, without me being able to see it and block him.

I have seen this exploit a number of times.

@Gargron.

@randahl @Gurre The account in question is suspended on mastodon.social.

@Gargron thank you for that clarification Eugen.

Do you agree that it is a problem, when trolls that are suspended on a server can still troll the posts written by users on that server?

It seems to me, an adversary fighting an information war could abuse this to spread propaganda through replies, which were invisible to users on Mastodon.social posting something, but visible to all their followers from other servers.

@Gargron @randahl @Gurre And that's the problem. An instance blocking a troll protects the troll from the victim, not the other way around.
The way it is designed this moderation action can do more harm than good.
