Just read an email newsletter from @newsmast about their upcoming Patchwork platform. It’s a plugin system to extend existing fediverse platforms.
One of their upcoming plugins will be local only posts. It’s a nice feature I used on Firefish, allowing nonfederated community discussions. Looking forward to it!
@laurenshof Yep! Still following the development and my homelab is hosting it just fine. It’s officially beta, but the UI is in major flux right now. Probably another year before a production release.
@laurenshof@indieweb.social @box464@mastodon.social it's always a little funny whenever I hear about the desire for local-only content, because outside of AP, that's all there is, and those of us who started apps there are desperately trying to federate content.
Truly a "why not both?" moment.
haha yeah true
but one reason why i like to talk about local-only content is that it helps focus what AP actually does with the server model, creating many interconnecting localities. Mastodon's focus on recreating big-room-only-social without giving a purpose to actually having different servers kinda sucks; if you want big-room-social-only, atproto is simply a better option imo. but AP is cooler because of the "why not both?" thing
@julian @box464 forums make the value of both local and global so much clearer and easier to understand than twitterclones can tho, so thankful for what youre doing!
talking about forums: i did not actually get a notification for your comment, so something might not be going perfect yet? its really cool to see you commenting from nodebb directly tho
Hi Jeff, glad you're looking forward to it!
