I don't want to jinx it, but so far Toronto's Snowpocalyse mark III(?) doesn't seem to be much, which opens up hope in my heart that the streets will remain clear enough for tomorrow's scheduled "Coldest Day of the Year" ride, https://www.cycleto.ca/coldest_day_2025 (10:30 am meeting, 11 am departure).
Since I don't go on 100% of the rides I don't prepare for, I'm currently making sure my bike lights are charged up and so on. And keeping my fingers crossed.
Even if I don't bike tomorrow, it seems relatively likely that I'll be able to commute by bike soon, so getting my bike and accessories ready isn't a bad thing in general (they've been snoozing for about the past two months). And in a bit over a month, maybe the recreational bike will wake up. (My bike club's season starts in April and we can actually do that some years.)
I went to Toronto's "Coldest Day of the Year" ride today[1] and as advertised this year it was cold, and I certainly felt cold between the slow pace, the duration, the wind, and the usually overcast weather. The turnout was decent, all things considered. I'd considered doing shopping on the way back home but in the end I went straight back because I just wanted to be warm again.
(My early January commute rides were in colder temperatures, but commuting is different.)
