Me [walking into hardware store wearing bike helmet]: I’ll take two of the 18kg of organic dirt.
Sarcastic guy at counter: You gonna ride them home on your bike?!
Me: Uh ... yeah actually ....
#CargoBikes are such a superpower you forget how impossible everything seemed before.
@daveley the guys over at Pedaal ( https://www.pedaal.com ) a few blocks from us here built their whole cafe and workshop with parts and supplies they rode there themselves via cargo bike, including the flooring, electrical, furniture, and industrial fridge (!!!) which Eric said terrified him the whole way
@daveley Rural Ukraine wonders what you need the electric motor and the extra wheel for. And the helmet; the rider was stopping by at the same café as I was and mockingly inquired how much I'd paid for my helmet, gesturing that his free roadside find baseball cap was protecting his head from the sun at least as well.
@daveley That looks like a fantastic beast! Very envious!
@daveley I’ve gotten the same question when hauling cases of drinks home from the grocery store. Cargo bikes rock!
@daveley I had a similar interaction at a home store. Some chode in a giant lifted truck watched me roll a large amount of seed and dirt to my relatively small ev. ‘Bro no way that’s gonna fit it’s time to get a truck like a real man’ or some dumb comment. Why people think you need a giant truck to move anything over a small car or bike is wild.
My e-bike isn’t a cargo model, but I love stopping at the grocery store on the way home and filling up the trunk and panniers. It works.
@daveley Yes! Just a couple of days ago went to get four bags of kitty litter and five bags of dirt for plants. I asked if I get a cyclist’s discount and the clerk started laughing. So no discount, but a nice ride anyways.
@daveley I once brought my Christmas tree home with my bike and trailer.
