#BrokenCNN, #BrokenPost, #BrokenTimes sanewash him. But now it's not just his wacky babbling; it represents a threat.
MSNBC, on the other hand, treats this properly, in the context of history and totalitarianism.

@jeffjarvis When did it stop being imperialist?
@ralberto @jeffjarvis I think there are clearly different levels. The post-Iraq era was markedly different and more restrained than before. Especially when comparing it to Vietnam or the earlier constant brutal interventions in Latin America.
@oxpal @jeffjarvis Are you aware of what's going on in the middle east, Ukraine and Georgia right now?
@oxpal @jeffjarvis In Mexico, the media power and imperialist hand can be seen in the conflict between radical political groups and the organized crime.
@ralberto @oxpal @jeffjarvis Russia is the aggressor in Ukraine and Georgia, not the US.
@ralberto @oxpal @jeffjarvis so you think the USA annexed Crimea in 2014 and is currently invading Ukraine? Do you think the USA is claiming that Ukrainians don't really exist and are actually Americans?
Or is that Russia? Because I'm pretty sure Russia is the one doing that.
@stellarsarah @oxpal @jeffjarvis That's ignoring the military alliance with a Ukrainian fraction and the expansion of NATO. Russia repeatedly called for a stop to that and set Ukraine as the limit since it imposes a strategic spot to potentially invade Russia. Every call for negotiation was rejected. The US trained troops in Ukrainian territory, financed their military with billions of dollars and in 2014 they couped the pro Russian government...
@stellarsarah @oxpal @jeffjarvis The US and NATO went as far as installing nuclear equipment near the border with Russia. The war on Ukraine was not only natural but NECESSARY. The US empire and its vassals NATO are NOT neutral and they continue to infest the world with war, expansionism and colonialism. The war on Ukraine is much more on the side of NATO than it is on the side of Russia.
@ralberto @stellarsarah @jeffjarvis that's a sick imperialist take. First off: Ukrainians can decide which alliance they want to join, not Russia, not you.
Secondly, NATO is a defense pact. If Russia wouldn't constantly brutally invade its neighbors, it would have nothing to fear. Evidenced by the fact that it was never attacked by NATO. Russia did the terror and mass murdering. Stop defending that!
Lastly: Ukraine was far from joining NATO. It was the EU contact that triggered Putin to invade.
@oxpal @stellarsarah @jeffjarvis Sure the Russians are the ones invading. The US have military bases all around the globe to protect citizens of other states while the Americans can't make a living. That makes perfect sense. Denying the American empire is such an ignorant take I'm almost angry.
@ralberto @stellarsarah @jeffjarvis I'm not denying imperial strategies of the US. But having a base in a nation - often with agreement of the local population is not the same as brutally invading a nation, mass murdering the people, officially annexing their land and declaring it your own. It's not even in the same ballpark.
If you didn't know that, then you should apologize to any Ukrainian who might have read your nonsense.
Russia mass murdered hundreds of thousands of innocent Ukrainians.
@oxpal @stellarsarah @jeffjarvis Oh yeah, I agree they're not in the same "ballpark" Russia did it in response to thread, still illegal, but it's a response.
The US in contrast:
- Exterminated the native north American population.
- Enslaved and exterminated a Africans.
- Murdered thousands in Philippines.
- The war against "terror" in Iraq...
This is not even an exhaustive list... What else do you need to see?
@ralberto @jeffjarvis the point of this whole thread was that these US crimes happened long ago - some centuries. It's not a good point even then, as Russia did dozens of genocides at the same time. Including killing millions in Ukraine (see: Holodomor). It's a horror story how Russia killed 97% of Circassians.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circassian_genocide
And again: it's just factually incorrect to say NATO triggered the Russian invasion. Ukraine wasn't close to join NATO. The EU accession plans of 2021 that did it.
@oxpal @jeffjarvis You're an apologist of the US imperialism and NATO colonialism. Iraq just happened, before Palestine and you chose to overlook it? What a sorry excuse for a person even remotely committed to fighting injustice.
I'm not saying Russia is an angel of God. I'm saying NATO and the US are expansionist, genocidal war machines and starting a war when they're approaching your territory is not illogical.
@ralberto @jeffjarvis I literally mentioned the Iraq war - and specifically said they acted better *afterwards*.
Yet you call Russians who are torturing and mass murdering hundreds of thousands of innocents right now, "not angels" and defending that with wrong timelines in "they did it to themselves" style.
Who is the imperialism defender here?
Learn to read or actually address the facts I stated.
Ukrainians want to join NATO. It's their choice not NATO invading. Clearly Russia is invading.
@oxpal @jeffjarvis For sure, let's conclude the US is not a genocidal empire, that's really really really accurate and reasonable. Just how did they take the US territory: they killed the American natives into a minority
I'm not saying Russia is an altruist country and that they're clean, what I'm saying is it's only natural that another imperialist force fears an enemy, and you've done all sorts of acrobacies to deny that fact. Attempting to clean the genocide in Iraq war low lol.
@ralberto @jeffjarvis you're just terrible at reading comprehension. Unless you think the genocide of native Americans started after the Iraq war. Then you're just terrible at history, I guess.
Continuing this discussion is pointless.
@oxpal @jeffjarvis I literally didn't say that. I agree the discussion is pointless. Especially if you eat up the heroic US from the movies...
@jeffjarvis The US *IS* already imperialist!!!
@jeffjarvis
I imagine the Philippines are anxious.
@jeffjarvis could you add an image description to these images so that the post does not bypass my filter?
@jeffjarvis it's very Putin to put the focus outside the borders. People stop arguing about the validity of his personnel declarations, his unpopular domestic agenda (restricting abortion, rolling back queer rights, oil subsidy, tax cuts for the wealthy), and plain sight corruption.
@PizzaDemon @jeffjarvis he learned this from Netanjahu though, not Putin. How much we betting a war will mysteriously start just before the elections, which he'll use to claim elections cannot happen during war?
@jeffjarvis Lebensraum?
@jeffjarvis I'm honestly shocked how badly the US media behaves recently.
They were never great, and I've seen valid critiques of their framing before... but it feels like it's a new level. Already before the election: nobody can convince me the top journalists of the trade didn't know after 10 years how to handle Trump. Or were unaware of their sane-washing.
Since after the election, it looks like a total collapse. And MSNBC will be bought by an alt-right billionaire before we know it.
@jeffjarvis
Putin-esque.
@jeffjarvis if Biden made the same comments, the media outlets would absolutely try to destroy him for it - rightfully so.
The absolute different reality of consequence that they hold Trump to is unfathomable to me.
@jeffjarvis The word they're looking for is "invasion", not "expansion". He’s put a lot of Canadians on edge recently too.
@jeffjarvis of he wants to expand the US, then make Puerto Rico a state.
@jeffjarvis I cant help but think this was an intentional distraction from the Gaetz reporting.
There is an added level of imperialism in centering the voices of Danish politicians and just ignoring what has been said by the people of Kalaallit Nunaat (they don't want to swap Denmark for the US).
@jeffjarvis
He has talked of annexing Canada. He would have every commonwealth realm round his neck.
It would make Putin's error in Ukraine look like a Sunday school outing.
