I don’t have a #fountainpen ink problem, I have a solution. At least 400ml of the best ink I’ve ever used. Everyone should have a bottle of this one on their desk.
@josephdickson I've already settled on Mrs. Stewart's Concentrated Liquid Bluing for my daily use ink. It comes in 237 mL (8 US fl oz) bottles, for about $5-6 USD at the grocery store, and I decant it into empty vintage Mont Blanc shoe bottles for use.
@gcvsa Neat, do you add this to distilled water? What’s the ratio and how does it look on the page?
@josephdickson I use it full strength. It's just Prussian Blue pigmented ink. The only caution is that it might be bad for gold nibs, so I use it only with stainless nibs. How it looks on the page is highly dependent on ink flow; more flow equals darker blue. The pigment itself is a deep dark midnight iron blue.
@josephdickson
Namiki Blue is a favorite of mine. Sounds like you found your ink.
Blue blacks are too dark for something that's supposed to be a color. If I want blue, I'll use a blue. If I want dark, black.
@tallastro @josephdickson “blue-blacks are too dark” — but in the case of Pilot Blue-black, it’s very blue, so I don’t find that to be true. If you’re talking about iron gall blue-blacks like Pelikan or Diamine or even Lamy, then yes.
@paradoxmo @tallastro I can see where Tallastro is coming from. When I used to play WoW I would say to other players… If I want to heal I’ll be a priest, if I want to tank I’ll be a Warrior. I’m not doing both as a Paladin. ;)
@tallastro I also have a 70ml bottle of Pilot black, my favorite black and will eventually buy a bottle of Pilot Blue. I’m a big fan of blues, blacks and the combination of the two. :D
@josephdickson I've got one of the 350mL bottles and my only complaint is that you need a separate inkwell to fill pens with it.
@edebill yep. I'll be using it to refill the 70ml bottle when it reaches empty.
Have you considered using an ink syringe to fill an empty sample vial?
@josephdickson I have several of the TWSBI inkwells, and some empty ink bottles I’ve saved. I usually just keep one of those full of it. It does mean that the giant bottle of ink isn’t a complete purchase by itself, though.
