CONTROVERSIAL OPINION/CONFESSION: I've never watched Firefly and I have no desire to do so despite the many people in my circle who have told me that it'd be my type of show. Something about the show has just always felt off with me.
Kendrick @kitkendrick@mastodon.social@sonicbooming Eh, nobody has to like everything. #Firefly manged to use a lot of #orientalist trappings (fashion, casual Chinese phrases) without having any actual Asian actors and a #western motif that has our sympathetic protagonists basically map to the Confederates after the US Civil War. There's also some weird stuff around the pseudo-geisha character. I could see any of that feeling off. (I mean I'm a fan but I don't need anyone else to share my taste.)
