@nixCraft Uff, I wonder how close that is to the legal definition of blackmail
@nixCraft Remove any cartridges and wire the paint feed directly from a can. Reprogram the printer to screech your favorite song every time you show up. Show this printer who’s boss
@in_sympathy in fact, make your printer screech the _Who's the Boss_ theme song every time you show up!
@nixCraft
@nixCraft
HP was a once proud company that produced high quality lab equipment and very useful and durable RPN calculators that were easily programmable.
HP is the canary in the coal mine for the decline of Western corporate capitalism.
@khleedril @led @nixCraft No, they’re not. HP laptops have caused me the most headaches with Linux.
I had as it is sworn off HP products, and this just cements my position. No more HP crap in my ad hoc fleet that extends to family and friends.
@khleedril

@led We've alerted you several times that this oscilloscope had non-Original HP test leads installed. This is your final notice to fix the issue. **Remove the indicated test leads and install Original HP test leads instead.**
If you continue to use non-Original HP test leads on this oscilloscope now, or in the future, you will lose your HP+ benefits and features such as Square Wave Test Tone™. Using only original HP test leads is a requirement of your HP+ Oscilliscope.
@nixCraft
@nixCraft are they for real? Passive-agressive level 100
@nixCraft what are they gonna do? Call the printer police?
@terenc3@troet.cafe
This is a nice printer you have here. It would be a shame, if anything happened to it, wouldn't it? I heard, using non Original HP cartridges can seriously harm your printer, you really shouldn't do that.
@nixCraft@mastodon.social
@nixCraft insert picture of person maniacally laughing at that notice, while refilling an old set of HP+ cartridges with a syringe!
@nixCraft I'm having issues verifying this message. If genuine, I'm trying to figure out if it also happens in the EU.
@troed looks like it also happens in the eu and it voids the 2 years warranty that's mandatory by European law. Considering that the printhead is separate I can't see how that can be legal in eu...
@nixCraft Like oil for the lamps of China: provide ridiculously cheap lamps and then charge scandalous prices for the oil.
@Frank_Engelhard I've heard that Standard Oil did that, but always assumed it was in their home market. This is the first time I hear the phrase. Thanks! I'm one of today's lucky 10000.
@nixCraft Good reason to throw away an HP printer. It's a win-win.
@nixCraft Don’t use printers, if it is possible…
@nixCraft Next Gen Printer Cartridges be like: https://youtu.be/Hzlt7IbTp6M?si=_TF3MxmlzthkddSv&T=44
@nixCraft HP really is the worst
@nixCraft
Idea: regulate such that printers and printer inks can not be manufactured or sold by companies within the same corporate/conglomerate/ownership structure.
Give them the option of instead following an open source standard for the cartridges and ban any and all forms of the machines or software even checking the manufacturer of the cartridges. Then they can do both.
Can I get the Pirate Party on board with this?
#PirateParty #PiratPartiet #Printers #HP #EU #PrinterInk
@tanepiper @nixCraft Brother! FTW!
@nixCraft and this is why I love my Brother laser printer.
@nixCraft is this even legal for them to do that?
@nixCraft Printer serfdom...
@nixCraft
1) buy 3D printer
2) remove one D
3) thank me later
@nixCraft time for a FreePrinterOS
@nixCraft I take delight in using non original inkjet and laser cartridges in my HP devices. Locked in services and consumables are just plain morally wrong and bad for the planet. I have a right to repair my devices and so I do. HP inkjets are designed to prematurely die, simply by filling the waste ink swamp. Drain the swamp and your printer lives on... 10 years and 21,300 pages.
@nixCraft Printing cartridges, mob edition.
@nixCraft this kind of behavior is disgusting.
@nixCraft I had a relatively expensive networked HP printer several years ago. One day, without asking, it got a "firmware update", without my consent. It bricked the printer. HP support was "the one year warranty is expired. Buy a new printer."
I should have gone to small claims court.
@nixCraft
Wow, is this real?
@nixCraft Neighbour bought an HP printer, fortunately she couldn't get it working so asked for help and I was in time to get her to send it back and buy a Brother. That not only works out of the box it will take other ink if needed.
HP of old is long gone. Even a decade ago I had some PA-RISC hardware to return and I asked HP and nobody in HP even knew what PA-RISC was let alone how to return them, so I stuck em in a box and parcelforced them to a random HP office
@nixCraft How is it that in 2024, we are still dealing with this predatory nonsense? This is a blatant violation of the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act of 1975.
@nixCraft
If you have an option to allow your printer only intranet and NOT internet, that might solve this issue.
@nixCraft
Just sad. And pathetic.
@nixCraft If this notice was any more threatening sounding, it'd be handed to you by a process server along with a lawsuit.
Granted, no clue what kind of laws they could sue you under for using refilled cartridges, buuuut
@nixCraft Remove cartridges, move to trash. Remove printer, move to trash. Purchase better printer.
Could we get a little more context here? I can't find anything to confirm this is authentic.
@nixCraft I fixed my HP printer issues by replacing it by a non-HP printer. Best decision ever.
@nixCraft no matter what they say legally, they can’t do that nor can they ban you from their own program based on you using another companies ink cartridge. It’s stage one anti-competitive practices that would land them in court.
The HP Special Cartridge Response Team is now outside your house. This is your final final notice. Once we issue the breach order we cannot guarantee your safety as guaranteed safety is only a feature of the HP plus plan.
