I made a Python script that tries to automate removing your Twitter followers.
https://github.com/popey/twitter-defollower
I started running this yesterday, and I've gone from ~17K followers to ~8K overnight. So that works! :D
It'll be zero by the weekend.
Well, I got my twitter follower and following counts *close* to zero, but not quite there. I cannot seem to remove these accounts that follow me, nor can I unfollow the one account I'm apparently following. Kinda annoying. I presume these are people whose accounts have been suspended, so I can't see them.
@popey
For the people in the back…it’s really just a script that automates a message that basically says; “All my twitter followers are a bunch of c$nts…particularly [insert specific twitter handle (@*)]!” …and just repeats that until they unfollow you..
While it works well with his UK and US followers…his Canadian followers generally don’t unfollow and simply respond with a message to the effect “Sorry, I see your point. I’ll try to be a better person.”
So it still needs some work.
@popey I saw this post before remembering what you were trying to do yesterday, and my response was "Wow, people really don't like your exercise goals"
@popey can you not do the soft block trick ? Where you block the user (which then forces them to unfollow you) then you wait a while (not sure how long it takes to sync) and then unblock them.
@cooljimy84 How? I can't even see them
@popey oh poop, erm not sure then. O would say deactivate the account for a day or two, but that doesn't seem to kick people for follow you.
@popey That’s more effort than I have ever put into Twatter :)
