boyf started watching Star Trek Prodigy and while I think it's a fun show it's also very difficult to like, contextualize in the greater trek universe because where Prodigy takes place, physically, is very vague. They start out by explicitly stating that it's in the Delta quadrant, with a Kazon slaver delivering a caitan (?) captive to the forced labor camp that the series starts out on. And there's a Tellarite laborer. Later we run into a ferengi, and the wreckage of a Klingon ship
Caitans, tellarites, klingons, and ferengi are all alpha/beta quadrant species, the inhabited portion of delta quadrant is ostensibly supposed to be a significant distance from Federation space - like it was established in Voyager that the Kazon territory was like 70 years away from Federation space at high warp, but somehow we keep running into alpha quadrant stuff everywhere. (just, uh, like voyager, lol)
and I kinda suspect they're not gonna try to explain how the galaxy got so much smaller (aside from the Protostar having an experimental new super-powered warp drive), because it's a kids' show. They have had some excellent good weird trek situations, though. Sentient vore planet and Rok suspended in time were both great.
lol and Dal R-El having to take the Kobayashi Maru with Spock, Odo, and Uhura voice-acted by clips from the old shows was a great "what's up, trek nerds, we know you're watching even though this show is for your children" moment
imo one of the biggest crimes that Prodigy commits is not having the adorable caitan kid join the crew of the protostar
